What wine goes with a corn dog?

One of the advantages of riding the ferry compared with other transportation modes is clearly the availability of food and beverages. In addition to soft drinks, bottled water, tap beer and wine, an array of once-frozen items -- think of the selection that was available at the "snack bar" in your junior high cafeteria -- are perched in cases on wire racks under heat-lamps like some sort of culinary fake tanning salon patrons. Ironically, these also can cause cancer. Deli sandwiches, many of which were parolled from local gas stations to a life at sea, are tightly wrapped in Saran Wrap in a small refrigerator next to the hot items. The usual menagerie of candy, chips and an eye-opening array of jerkey flavors (who knew Oberto sold a Cheddar Bacon flavor!?) and two cauldrons of soup-like matter round out the food options. Almost.

Until today the Ferry Boys did not realize that corn dogs are also available to the BFFs (see earlier post). This was revealed today as a nearby female ferry rider was seen chowing on a corn dog accompanied by a plastic cup of white wine. Who among us hasn't left work at 4 p.m. and thought, "wow, a deep-fried, battered wiener and a white zin would really hit the spot right now"? Apparently this BFF -- who will now be known as Corn Dog Carol in future episodes of Boat Banter whenever she makes cameo appearances -- did. Don't judge.

Maybe only those of us who live in the NW and ride the ferry on a regular basis will understand.......
