First, the blog has been a bit slow this week. And this is NOT because of a lack of material. Just today, for instance, the man in front of me in line in the snack bar took 3 minutes to decide that Doritos are the right accompaniment for chicken fingers and french fries (well of COURSE!) and the guy sitting behing me right now is, I kid you not, telling the woman sitting across from him "the best parts about wearing pants." Earlier this week, I observed a woman reading this month's edition of, wait for it, "Chickens" magazine. I also never miss an issue. No, the lack of posts has been the result of my slavish dedication to work. As far as you know. Anyway, I promise more content next week.
Meanwhile, we NEVER miss Thursday night music, and this week it's all been about Van Halen. Or Van Hagar, as it could be referred to. From 1985 through 1996, original members Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen and Michael Anthony joined forces with vocalist/guitarist Sammy Hagare to produce four studio albums, all of which readched #1 on the Billboard pop music charts and 17 singles that breached the top 12 of the mainstream rock tracks chart. During that era, one single, 1988's "When It's Love", reached the Top Five, peaking at #5. In addition, Van Halen was nominated for two Grammy Awards, winning the 1992 Best Hard Rock Performance with Vocal award. Van Halen continued to enjoy success throughout the mid-90s. In 1995, Van Halen supported Bon Jovi on their European Summer stadium tour.
This song, "When It's Love" is from the album OU812, and combines Eddie's soaring keyboards with the driving beat of Alex's drums and Michael's bass, as well as Hagar's tight vocals. It's a pretty good video as well.
