One of Seattle's most innovative and adaptive organizations today announced that its genereous tele-commuting policy would be extended to its burgeoning off-shore operations in Bangalore, India. The program, originally designed to help its many Tacoma-based associates navigate the long daily commutes into the heart of the Emerald City, was expanded in a sign of global collaboration and teamwork.
In an exclusive interview with Ferry Tales, Raji Vankataranama, off-shore representative for the firm, said, "This is a blessing of un-imaginable importance. The opportunity to have affordable, reliable transportation is exceedingly generous of this fine American company to provide and makes me happy more than I can possibly express."
Over a breakfast of Grape Slurpee and Potato Curry with Poached Eggs, Vankataranama -- who was in Seattle to meet with the "very kind souls" at the Seattle firm and learn more about the Orca Card program -- expressed amazement at the size of the 6:20 a.m. Ferry Kitsap.
"This boat, it is as if you have taken 12 or more ox stalls and tethered them with bungee to floating logs," he exclaimed. "Although we do not have need for ferries in Bangalore I do admire this revolutionary American approach to transporting your working classes. And the room is stupendous!"
The off-shore Tele-Commuting Policy was rolled out on Monday with rail service as the initial offering.
"We are excited about having our off-shore teams arrive to work refreshed and ready to have productive days," the company spokeswoman said. "Working on detailed accounting and analytical processes requires a steady hand and an alert mind, and getting our virtual teams to their offices in comfort will pay huge productivity gains for the firm."
Phase Two, which will include Vespas and flat-bed trucks, is expected to be launched in early March after program details and safety trials (pictured below) are successfully completed.
